On Saturday, August 9, 2025, a delegation from the National Democratic Congress traveled to Obogu in the Ashanti Region to console families devastated by the loss of 16 young members of the Saviour Church.
The tragic accident had occurred weeks earlier, on July 28, 2025, when the vehicle carrying the youth collided with a fuel tanker on the Accra–Kumasi Highway, claiming all lives aboard. A mass burial was conducted on July 31 to lay the victims to rest.
The NDC team, led by Party Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, spent time with the bereaved families, offering comfort and assuring them they were not alone during this painful period.
In addition to emotional support, the delegation distributed cash and essential supplies to help the families cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.
Both Nketiah and Amoakohene described the accident as a national sorrow, emphasizing the potential of the youth who were lost. They also highlighted plans to collaborate with local authorities to strengthen road safety measures, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future. The families expressed gratitude for the visit, saying the NDC’s gesture provided some relief amid their grief.
