The recent unveiling of a 25,000-capacity church auditorium in Pokuase Katapor Estate, Accra has sparked a heated online debate.
Reverend Stephen Adom Kyei Dua, Founder and General Overseer of Believers Worship Center, also known as Second Chance or Philadelphia Church, has officially commissioned it.
While some congratulated the Believers Worship Center on their new ultramodern facility, many others expressed disappointment and frustration.
“Mese, you can say whatever you want, you can insult him anyhow, you can hate him as much as you want, still Philadelphia!!!! And nobody can take it from him,” one supporter wrote.
However, many others were critical. “Ultramodern Luxurious Apparently The most abused words in Ghana.”
“Well done Nana Addo. Performing Miracles are the only surviving business in Ghana ATM,” one person joked.
Another commented, “If the system works, most people won’t even be here; So I was in Accra this week and had the opportunity to visit the Achimota forest to see an old friend and guess what, people were busy praying on a Monday afternoon instead of going to work.”
Some questioned the priorities of the church, “Instead of building factories.”
“My problem is what percentage of these congregation can make it to heaven.”
Others criticized the grandeur of the building, “How can you call a shared (Apata) ultramodern? Some of your guys nso de33333.”
“25000 capacity How much was committed in building it. I want to check something.”
The debate highlights the complex relationship between religion, development, and societal priorities in Ghana. As the country continues to grapple with challenges like unemployment and infrastructure development, the role of religious institutions in addressing these issues remains a topic of contention.
