New Mum Kicked Out of Salon After Giving Birth — You Won’t Believe Why!

A Nigerian woman has gone viral after revealing she was turned away from a salon simply because she had recently given birth — a moment she described as heartbreaking.

The young mum, who goes by @mummy_taliah on TikTok, shared her ordeal through an emotional video, explaining how she had hoped to do something small for herself by getting a hair wash and some neat cornrows. But instead of leaving refreshed, she was asked to leave.

“I just wanted to feel like myself again,” she shared, recalling how the stylist outright refused to touch her hair due to her postpartum status. According to the salon attendant, it was “too soon” after childbirth for her to be getting her hair done.

Her video quickly caught fire online, opening up a fierce debate about hair care and traditional beliefs surrounding women who have recently given birth.

Some TikTok users shared their own stories — with a few warning of their hair falling out or experiencing strange symptoms after styling their hair shortly after childbirth. Others, however, questioned the logic, calling the act discriminatory and rooted in outdated superstitions.

One commenter recalled suffering severe hair loss after relaxing her hair just a week after delivery. Another said her front hairline completely vanished weeks after making her hair. But many pushed back, saying postpartum hair changes are hormonal and not necessarily linked to hair styling.

The discussion has since turned into a wider conversation about how new mothers are treated in society, especially when they try to reclaim their self-care and identity in the weeks following childbirth.
