Newly Appointed Chinese Envoy Arrives in Ghana

His Excellency Cong Song has been appointed by China as its Ambassador-Designate to Ghana, to replace HE Tong Defa, who ended his tenure in January.

The new envoy presented Open Letters to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Congratulating and welcoming him to Ghana, she highlighted the steady growth in the partnership between Ghana and China, particularly in the areas of trade, infrastructure development and capacity building.

She further acknowledged China’s cooperation with Ghana at the multilateral level and expressed gratitude for China’s support for the recently adopted United Nations resolution on the Declaration of the Trafficking of Enslaved Africans and Racialised Chattel Enslavement of Africans as the Gravest Crime against Humanity.

For his part, HE Song expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him and assured of his commitment to further strengthen the partnership between Ghana and China.

He noted the steady growth in trade between the two countries, as well as the increasing presence of Chinese enterprises, educational exchanges and development cooperation initiatives in Ghana.

He further affirmed China’s support for Ghana’s Reset Agenda, adding that the Embassy would work closely with the Ministry to advance practical cooperation between the two countries.
