A coordinated effort by Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai, alongside vigilantes and local hunters, successfully repelled a bold attack by suspected ISWAP militants in Shikarkir, a community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The violent encounter occurred in the early evening hours of Monday, June 23, 2025, when the armed insurgents launched a surprise assault on the village. Swift military action thwarted the terrorists’ advance, forcing them to retreat after sustaining casualties.
Despite the victory, the clash came at a painful cost to residents. Four civilians were hit by stray bullets during the firefight. Tragically, two victims—30-year-old Ishaku Markson, who had only recently married in March, and 28-year-old Buba Zakariya—succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the General Hospital in Chibok.
Two others, identified as Yama Wadai, 41, and Maina Fali, survived the gunshot wounds and are currently undergoing treatment at the same facility. Medical personnel confirmed that both individuals are in stable condition and showing signs of recovery.
The incident adds to ongoing security challenges in the region as communities continue to confront the persistent threat posed by terrorist factions like ISWAP.
