Traditional landowners of Nima have thrown their support behind Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, as he contests the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The endorsement came at a press conference in Accra on February 3, 2026, addressed by Nii Odoi Kwao II, Head of the Nii Odoi Kwao Family of Osu, who hold the allodial title to the Akanetso lands, which include present-day Nima and surrounding communities.
Speaking on behalf of his family, Nii Odoi Kwao II said the people of Nima have, over the years, suffered intentional neglect, discrimination and marginalisation, despite being bona fide residents of Ga land with a long-established history predating Ghana’s independence.
He stressed that Nima residents are not strangers or settlers, noting that several court rulings had long affirmed Nima’s status as legitimate Ga land.

The traditional leader called for political leadership that is culturally aware, legally grounded and capable of defending the interests of the people of Nima at the national level.
Against this backdrop, the Nii Odoi Kwao Family appealed for credible and principled leadership in the constituency, a call widely interpreted as an endorsement of Baba Jamal, who is seeking the NDC’s nomination.
“We believe in the leadership of Baba Jamal and we support his bid to contest and win the seat, “ he said.
The family urged residents to prioritise integrity, consistency and service-oriented leadership, stressing the importance of proper documentation, education and community empowerment in advancing development.
Baba Jamal is among other candidates who have picked forms to contest the Ayawaso East seat following the death of the sitting MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in early January 2026.
