The National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned four teacher unions to appear before it on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, for a hearing on the issues that led to them embarking on a strike.
The teacher unions are the Senior Staff Association–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), the Teachers’ and Educational Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC), the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) and the Technical Universities Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG).
Injunction
The summons, which was issued in line with section 139 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), comes after the NLC secured a High Court order placing an injunction on the strike declared by the unions.
In an order for an interim injunction, the court, presided over by Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori, described the strike as illegal, ordering the unions to call it off with immediate effect. The order by the court, which was granted on February, 13, 2026, followed an ex-parte application by the commission.
The injunction will last for 10 days, after which the NLC may apply to the court for a further injunction (if it wishes), but only by serving notice on unions.
In the order, the court restrained the four bodies, their executives, officers, members, agents, servants, employees, and other persons linked to them from continuing their illegal strike.
“It is hereby ordered that the application is granted as prayed and the respondents herein, their executives, officers, members, agents, servants, employees are hereby ordered to call off their illegal strike and are further ordered or restrained from continuing with their illegal action with immediate effect”.
