The Ashanti Regional Director of National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Mr. Kwesi Agyenim Boateng has clarified that, the Authority has not imposed a ban on the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles, despite growing public concerns suggesting otherwise.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi Boakye on Nkwantannaso on Opemsuo Radio, Mr. Agyenim Boateng, explained that the Authority received several complaints from the public regarding the involvement of Voxy vehicles in road accidents, which prompted the establishment of a technical committee to investigate the matter.

“The Authority has not yet issued a final directive banning the commercial use of Voxy vehicles. What we have is a recommendation from a technical committee,” he stated.

According to him, one of the key recommendations from the committee includes a possible restriction or ban on the use of such vehicles, but this has not yet been adopted as policy.

Mr. Agyenim Boateng noted that the report has since been submitted to the Authority, which is expected to engage key stakeholders before taking a final decision. These stakeholders include transport unions, Customs, the Ghana Standards Authority, and other relevant regulatory bodies.

“In the next two weeks, the Authority will meet all stakeholders and, after that, communicate an official decision,” he added.

He emphasised that the process is consultative and evidence-based, aimed at ensuring that any directive taken is in the interest of public safety and in line with regulatory requirements.

Authorities are therefore urging the public to remain calm and await the outcome of the ongoing consultations before drawing conclusions on the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial purposes.
