The Head of Public Relations of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), DOII Desmond Ackah, has confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the fire outbreak at the Circle Tip Toe Lane market.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb at the scene on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, DOII Ackah said that neither fire personnel who battled the blaze nor civilians present sustained any injuries.

“…We have not recorded any fatalities or injuries, whether among firefighters or civilians,” he revealed.

According to him, the fire has been brought under control, with fire officers working tirelessly to extinguish it completely.

He also allayed fears that the fire could spread to other structures and cause further damage.

“When we say the fire has been confined, it means we have stopped it from spreading further to the west, east, north, or south, so there is no cause for alarm,” he said.

The fire, which began around mid-morning on Tuesday, gutted several shops and properties, completely destroying them.

Eyewitnesses said the blaze spread rapidly through the densely packed wooden structures before firefighters arrived.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly with fire tenders and managed to bring most of the fire under control.
