No drumming or dancing at airports without approval — GACL warns

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has cautioned the public against organising cultural performances at the country’s airports without official clearance.

According to the company, traditional displays such as drumming, dancing, singing, chanting and ululations will no longer be permitted at airport terminals unless prior approval has been granted by management.

In a public notice, GACL explained that individuals, families or groups who intend to welcome guests with cultural performances must first seek permission from the Commercial Services Department of the company. Without this authorisation, performers and their instruments will not be allowed access to the airport premises.

The company noted that the directive has become necessary due to the increasing number of informal cultural welcomes that have been taking place at arrival areas, which often disrupt airport operations and passenger movement.

While GACL did not spell out specific sanctions for those who flout the directive, it stressed that airport activities are strictly regulated and must be conducted in a manner that ensures safety, orderliness and smooth operations.

The directive urged the individuals or groups who wish to organise approved cultural welcomes to contact the Commercial Services Department ahead of time to go through the necessary procedures.

GACL similarly urged the public to cooperate fully with airport authorities to help maintain discipline and professionalism at Ghana’s international airports.
