Nollywood veteran Ibrahim Chatta has opened up about one of the most painful moments of his life—losing his first child because he couldn’t afford medical care. In an emotional conversation with Events & Parties TV, the 54-year-old actor recounted how the tragic loss of his infant daughter has stayed with him all these years.
Chatta explained that when the baby became ill, the hospital refused to proceed with treatment unless payment was made. Desperate to save her life, he walked tirelessly through multiple neighborhoods in Lagos, including Ijora-Badia, Orile, Lawanson, Costain, and Makoko, retracing the same paths where he once hawked puff-puff as a struggling youth.
Despite his efforts, he failed to raise the necessary funds in time. The baby girl passed away before she could be helped.
The pain didn’t end there. With no money for a proper burial, Chatta revealed that his daughter was laid to rest using a wooden Coca-Cola crate as a makeshift coffin—a haunting memory he carried in silence for years.
He eventually shared the heartbreaking story with his current partner during a family trip to Dubai, after purchasing a diamond anklet for their daughter. The moment brought tears as his family heard the story for the first time.
Although now blessed with three children, Chatta says the memory of that loss still lives with him. Grateful for his current blessings, he expressed a wish to have even more children in the future, celebrating fatherhood as one of his greatest joys.
