The Chair of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has cautioned that no form of congregation will be allowed at polling centres during the party’s presidential primary.
According to him, the directive forms part of strict measures being enforced to ensure a calm, transparent and orderly electoral process.
He said the rules governing the exercise have been clearly communicated to all presidential aspirants and their campaign teams.
Mr Osei Owusu said preparations for the primary had been completed in collaboration with the Electoral Commission, with clear guidelines on conduct at voting centres.
He explained that delegates would be required to cast their ballots and leave the premises immediately, without loitering or assembling in groups.
“Our rules are very clear. On the day of the election, no group should gather anywhere. You come in, vote, and leave. We do not want situations where people congregate under canopies or sheds at constituency centres,” he stated in an interview with Channel One TV.
He further warned against the transportation of delegates to polling centres, stressing that bussing is expressly prohibited under party regulations.
“That practice is discouraged. It is clearly stated in the rules we have circulated, and no one is expected to provide such arrangements,” he cautioned.
The NPP is scheduled to elect its presidential candidate on January 31 as part of efforts to rebuild and reposition the party following its loss in the 2024 general elections.
Those contesting the flagbearer position include Kennedy Agyapong, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Dr Bryan Acheampong.
