Ahead of the general elections in 2024, the Kumasi Central Market traders, who were requested to vacate the Kejetia Phase 2 site so that construction could commence, have issued a stern warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Given that the Kejetia market Phase 2 project has been inactive since December 2022, they feel deceived.
They said that the project came to a sudden end because the Brazilian construction company Contracta sacked all of its workers, leaving only the building’s foundation in place.
The government informed them during their investigation that the project had been put on hold because of the Debt Restructuring Program and that construction would pick back up after the government received the first round of funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
As a result, they are giving the NPP administration a warning that they, the Ashanti Region’s traders, are alert this time and that they won’t be easily tricked or misled. This is important because the general elections in December are quickly coming.
Before the day of reckoning arrives, they implored the NPP government to take the necessary action.
