Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has appointed former Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, as his Campaign Manager with former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, as Senior Campaign Advisor.
“In selecting these two stalwarts, Mr Boakye Agyarko has signalled his intent to run a grassroots- centred campaign. Both Osei-Owusu and Quartey bring to the table an admirable track record of grassroots mobilisation, sharp political acumen and significant national influence,” a statement signed by his Campaign Spokesperson, Vincent Frimpong Manu said.
Volunteers
It said the appointment was announced at a meeting with a group of volunteers whose goal was to secure Boakye Agyarko’s chairmanship towards building a formidable party that would propel the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to victory in the 2028 election.
It said the combined experience of Mr Osei-Owusu and Mr Quartey in “legislative affairs, internal party dynamics and executive governance provides the Boakye Agyarko Campaign with a formidable strategic advantage.”
The statement said both Mr Osei-Owusu and Mr Quartey had expressed their deep conviction in Boakye Agyarko’s roadmap for the party.
It said the two leaders emphasised that they fully share Mr Boakye-Agyarko’s vision to rebuild, restructure and rebrand the NPP for victory in 2028.
“While the top leadership has been set, a comprehensive list of the full National Campaign Team – comprising of experts in strategy, research, communications, and operations, will be officially inaugurated in due course,” it stated.
Polls
A nationwide survey by Apex Intelligence and Innovation Insights, a non-profit research organisation, has placed a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, in the lead for the party’s forthcoming national chairmanship contest, with 38.2 per cent support among delegates surveyed.
He is followed by the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), with 22.6 per cent, while former General Secretary John Boadu secured 21.6 per cent.
“Other aspirants trail considerably behind in the current delegate perception landscape,” the report noted.
The study, conducted from March 11 to 22, 2026, covered 871 delegates across all 16 regions.
Competitive race
Despite Mr Agyarko’s early advantage, the report cautioned that the contest remained fluid.
“Although internal party contests can change quickly, the numbers suggest that Boakye Agyarko enters this phase of the race with a measurable advantage,” it said.
It added that the race “remains competitive enough to demand strong organisation, coalition building and sustained outreach from all serious contenders.”
Beyond popularity
The survey emphasised that the race would not be decided by name recognition alone.
The report indicated that the outcome would shape the party’s future direction.
Delegates, it said, are seeking leadership capable of “rebuilding confidence, strengthening internal cohesion and positioning the party effectively for future national electoral battles.”
