The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the immediate release of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, accusing the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) of unlawful and arbitrary detention.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP described the detention as an abuse of power and claimed that Mr Ofosu Nkansah had voluntarily made himself available to assist investigations before being held at a location allegedly unknown to his lawyers.

The statement further alleged that Mr Ofosu Nkansah was compelled by NIB officials to travel from Kumasi to Accra despite having a seriously ill father, and that armed operatives later raided his residence.

The opposition party warned against what it termed a growing culture of harassment, arguing that such actions pose a threat to democratic governance and civil liberties.

The NPP urged the President to intervene, stating that failure to act in the face of the alleged abuse would undermine assurances to protect Ghana’s democracy.

The statement concluded with a demand for Mr Ofosu Nkansah’s immediate release, citing the principles of free speech and democratic accountability.
