The New Patriotic Party has reacted strongly to comments made by Asante Akim South MP, Kwaku Asante Boateng, who publicly challenged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s suitability to lead the party. His remarks during an interview on Adom TV have stirred public anger, with many observers describing the attack as discriminatory and harmful to national unity.

In response, the NPP’s national leadership issued a statement on Saturday, firmly dissociating the party from the MP’s position. The statement emphasized that the governing tradition remains rooted in principles that promote national cohesion, equal opportunity, and respect for all citizens.

According to the party, individuals who serve the NPP earn recognition through their loyalty and dedication, not through their background or identity. Party leaders assured the public that they remain committed to maintaining a political environment where tribal sentiments have no place.

The release, signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, reiterated that the NPP will continue to defend the dignity of every Ghanaian and safeguard its reputation as a unified and inclusive movement.

This incident comes at a sensitive moment, as the party continues efforts to rally its members behind Dr. Bawumia after leading the NPP into the 2024 presidential elections.
