Former Assin Central Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has urged his supporters to remain resolute despite what he described as a disappointing outcome in the party’s presidential primary.
Addressing party faithful at his campaign office at Shiashie on Saturday, January 31, Mr Agyapong acknowledged the setback but stressed that it did not mark the end of his political journey or that of his supporters within the NPP.
“The worst has happened, but that’s not the end of the road,” he told the gathering. “Politics is a long journey, and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. What matters is how you conduct yourself after the results.”
Mr Agyapong thanked his supporters for their commitment and sacrifices throughout the campaign, noting that their enthusiasm and loyalty would not be taken for granted. He encouraged them to remain calm and avoid actions or statements that could deepen divisions within the party.
“I am proud of all of you for the work you have done. I want everybody to stay peaceful and disciplined. The NPP is bigger than all of us, and we must protect it,” he said.
The former MP also emphasised the need for unity going forward, urging party members to close ranks after the contest and focus on the broader objective of winning national power.
“At the end of the day, we are one family. We may have competed fiercely, but after the contest, we must come together and support the party to move forward,” Mr Agyapong added.
His remarks come as the NPP concludes its presidential primary, an exercise widely regarded as one of the most keenly contested internal elections in the party’s history.
