Tensions are brewing between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Peace FM as prominent party member PK Sarpong issues a strong warning over the prolonged absence of Kwami Sefa Kayi from the Kokrokoo morning show.
Sefa Kayi, a veteran broadcaster and the longstanding host of the influential morning program, has not returned to the studio since the beginning of April, despite earlier expectations of a comeback. His continued absence has raised alarm among supporters and members of the ruling party, with many wondering what may be going on behind the scenes.
PK Sarpong, in a post shared online, expressed serious concerns and questioned whether internal forces at Despite Media — particularly its Managing Director, Fadda Dickson — may be playing a role in keeping Sefa Kayi off the air. He hinted at possible political motivations, suggesting that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) might be influencing decisions at the station in an attempt to silence voices perceived to be aligned with the NPP.
He further raised the possibility of internal rivalries within the media house, speculating whether the success and influence of Sefa Kayi might have made some key figures at the station uncomfortable, especially after the broadcaster’s appointment to the board of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) under former President Akufo-Addo.
Adding to the controversy, it is alleged that Peace FM’s management demanded an apology from Sefa Kayi over an undisclosed issue, which he reportedly complied with, yet he remains off the air.
Sarpong expressed disappointment over the NPP’s silence in the matter, recalling how the NDC once boycotted the Kokrokoo show when it was displeased with the host’s editorial direction. He argued that if Sefa Kayi is not reinstated soon, the NPP should consider withdrawing its participation from the show entirely.
The standoff has sparked debate on media independence, political interference, and internal tensions within Ghana’s broadcasting industry. Many are watching closely to see how Despite Media and the NPP will navigate this escalating issue.
