Godwin Edudzi Tameklo is the CEO of National Petroleum Authority
The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming the party would have increased fuel prices if it were in power during the reported abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day programme on Wednesday, Tameklo argued that the NPP had a tendency to blame external events for domestic economic challenges, particularly fuel price hikes.
“If the NPP were in power, the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro would have been enough reason to increase fuel prices,” he said.
Tamekloe also referenced the Russia-Ukraine War, noting that despite the conflict being geographically distant from Ghana, it was frequently cited as the cause of double-digit inflation during the previous administration.

“The people who were having bombs dropped on them had single-digit inflation, yet Ghana was recording double-digit inflation,” he stated.
He used the platform to commend President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as sound economic leadership within his first year in office, stressing that the government has not issued any Eurobond during the period.
According to him, Minister of Finance Ato Forson has paid approximately $709 million in inherited debt at a stabilised exchange rate of GH¢10.5 to the dollar, resulting in significant savings for the country.
Edudzi Tameklo said the development demonstrates the benefits of placing ‘competent people’ in charge of the economy, adding that the performance of the current administration should be assessed based on results achieved so far.
