As Ghana approaches another election, citizens are raising tough questions about the New Patriotic Party’s push for a second term. While the party is actively campaigning, unresolved controversies from its previous administration continue to cast a shadow. Allegations of financial mismanagement, involvement in illegal mining activities, and internal corruption have left many questioning the party’s credibility.

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s tenure remains a flashpoint. Decisions linked to escalating national debt, controversial deals such as Agyapa, and perceived conflicts of interest in Databank transactions continue to fuel public scrutiny. Observers argue that such actions could not have happened without the oversight of the President and his administration, raising questions about accountability at the highest levels.

The party’s handling of galamsey has also drawn criticism. Despite claiming to combat illegal mining, reports suggest that some officials were implicated in the very activities the government pledged to stop. This inconsistency has led many to question the sincerity of the administration’s anti-galamsey efforts, particularly when party insiders were allegedly protected from investigation or prosecution.

With economic collapse, unchecked mining networks, and governance lapses under review, citizens are increasingly calling for transparency. Many argue that before seeking another mandate, the NPP should acknowledge past mistakes, offer clear explanations for previous missteps, and present concrete measures to prevent repetition.

As the campaign heats up, Ghanaians are watching closely, and past actions are expected to play a significant role in influencing voter sentiment this election cycle.
