Recent social media posts by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa have revealed that the ‘NPP’s highly promoted’ Rock City Hotel reported losses in 2023.
In stark contrast, the Labadi Beach Hotel reported profits exceeding GHS158 million for the same year.
The controversy centers around SSNIT’s decision to sell a 60% stake in four of its hotels—Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Ridge Royal Hotel, and Elmina Beach Resort—to Rock City Hotel Limited. Rock City Hotel, owned by Bryan Acheampong, the MP for Abetifi and Minister for Food and Agriculture, was selected after submitting the strongest technical and financial proposal among the bids received.
SSNIT began the divestment process in 2018, aiming to partner with a strategic investor to raise capital and improve hotel management.
However, Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu, has petitioned CHRAJ to halt the sale, alleging conflict of interest, abuse of power, and procurement breaches.
Ablakwa’s recent post criticized the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, suggesting that their claims about Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City saving SSNIT’s struggling hotels are misleading. He argued that the real motive behind these transactions is to capture profitable and iconic national brands for personal gain, rather than serving the interests of Ghanaian workers and pensioners.
SSNIT has clarified that the sale process has been transparent and in line with the Public Procurement Act, denying any procurement breaches.
In his post, Ablakwa vowed to oppose the sale, calling it unpatriotic, senseless, and harmful to the nation. He also announced an upcoming demonstration on June 18 to protest the deal, signaling strong opposition to the government’s actions.

Intercepted GRA filings reveal that the NPP’s much hyped Rock City Hotel declared losses in 2023. This is the same year Labadi Beach Hotel made profits in excess of GHS158million. Don’t believe the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government when they tell you this sleazy deal is about Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City saving SSNIT’s struggling hotels. It’s all about capturing profitable and iconic national brands for themselves. It’s never been about the interest of Ghanaian workers and pensioners. We shall stop this unpatriotic, senseless and deleterious sale! Our June 18 DEMO is loading.
