The Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has directed the Director General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, to reverse the appointments of 17 staff members after identifying alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.
The decision was taken during a Board retreat held in Ada, where Mr. Ampofo Ankrah was reportedly instructed to nullify the appointments by February 6. This marks the second time the Board has issued such a directive.
According to sources familiar with the matter, several of the roles assigned to the newly recruited staff do not exist within the NSA’s approved organisational structure, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the appointments.
The situation has reportedly strained relations between the Board and the Director General, with insiders claiming that Mr. Ampofo Ankrah has been reluctant to fully comply with the Board’s decision.
Further complicating the matter are reports that some of the new appointees have been granted responsibilities that exceed those of existing deputy directors, a development said to have fueled discontent within the Authority.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, is expected to step in to mediate discussions between the Board and the Director General in an effort to bring the impasse to an end.
