The organisers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) have provided details on why one of the most eagerly awaited quarter-final matches had to be postponed after an overwhelming crowd disrupted security arrangements at the University of Cape Coast.

The contest, originally slated for Thursday, October 30, 2025, was expected to draw huge attention as three powerhouse rivals — Prempeh College, Adisadel College and Mfantsipim School — were set to battle for a semi-final spot. Anticipation quickly turned into chaos when a large number of supporters forced their way into the School of Graduate Studies Auditorium, creating a situation that organisers could no longer control.

Primetime Limited, managers of the competition, explained that the venue was selected after considering availability, ease of access, and the technical setup required for the televised contest. Although larger halls exist on campus, organisers said the chosen auditorium was the most practical option and preparations were made to handle significant audience numbers.

Supporters from each of the three schools were allocated limited entry slots, while outdoor screens, additional seating areas and livestreaming rooms were arranged to manage the overflow. Security teams, including police and campus officers, had also been deployed to maintain calm.

However, despite these measures, the push by fans to gain entry into the main auditorium caused delays and heightened safety concerns. With tensions rising and darkness approaching, organisers concluded that going ahead with the match could risk clashes among supporters and endanger participants.

The decision to halt the contest disappointed students, fans and stakeholders, but Primetime Limited says protecting lives and property remains its top priority. The organisation has assured the public that a new date will be announced once adequate arrangements are confirmed to prevent any repeat of the incident.
