The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) UK, under the leadership of President Obiri Yeboah Samuel, has called on the Ghanaian government to take urgent action to address delays affecting scholarships, IELTS requirements, and financial support for students studying in the United Kingdom.
Speaking on behalf of NUGS UK, President Obiri Yeboah Samuel emphasised the growing concerns among Ghanaian students over financial arrears and administrative hurdles that are impacting their studies.
“The delays in scholarship disbursements and pending IELTS exemptions are putting Ghanaian students at risk of visa issues and educational disruption,” he stated.
According to NUGS UK, some students face mounting financial pressure as they struggle to cover tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses while waiting for government support.
The organisation has also highlighted the urgent need to resolve scholarship arrears to ensure students can continue their studies without interruption.
In addition to financial concerns, NUGS UK has raised alarms over potential visa complications caused by delayed IELTS documentation and scholarship confirmations.
The leadership stressed that timely government intervention is crucial to protect Ghanaian students from unnecessary academic and legal challenges abroad.
President Obiri Yeboah Samuel further urged the government to prioritise the welfare of students, calling for swift measures to address the financial and administrative challenges facing Ghanaians pursuing higher education in the UK.
“NUGS UK is committed to advocating for the rights and welfare of Ghanaian students abroad. We call on the relevant authorities to act promptly so that students can focus on their education without undue stress,” he added.
