The five heavyweight contenders for the NPP flagbearer position

Sorting and counting of ballot papers has officially begun for the 2026 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

This comes as voting officially ended at 2pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026, as an estimated 211,000 members from the party’s constituencies cast their votes at over 300 polling centres nationwide.

The primaries were mostly peaceful across all voting centers observed, with tight security recorded throughout.

The primaries saw the five heavyweight contenders, including former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, see strong turnout from party delegates eager to choose their flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
