The Odauhene, Daasebre Ofosu Kwabi Ayebiahwe, has called for renewed attention to the longstanding relationship between the Akyem Abuakwa and Akyem Odau traditional areas, emphasising the importance of cooperation in maintaining peace and unity.
Speaking at a meeting of the Palanquin Chiefs (Apakanfo) of the Odau Traditional Area at Odau Fie in Akyem Etwereso, he reflected on the historical connections between the two traditional states.
“Our relationship with Akyem Abuakwa has always been one of friendship and mutual respect,” he said.
“We became part of the larger state through a willing alliance, and that spirit of cooperation has guided us over the years.”
The Odauhene noted that the Odau people played important roles in the early formation and defence of the Akyem states, contributing significantly to their shared history.
He also highlighted the historical development of Akyem Osenase, explaining that leadership arrangements there have traditionally been handled within the Odau customary framework.
“Osenase has long been part of the Odau traditional structure, and matters relating to its leadership have been guided by our customs and established processes,” he stated.
While reaffirming his respect for the authority of the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Odauhene stressed the need for continued dialogue and adherence to tradition in resolving concerns.
“I have always acknowledged and supported the leadership of the Okyenhene,” he said.
“At the same time, it is important that we continue to engage and work together, respecting the roles and responsibilities that each traditional authority holds.”
He expressed hope that any emerging concerns would be addressed through consultation to preserve the longstanding harmony between the two traditional areas.
“Our shared history and unity are important to all of us,” he added.
“Through dialogue and mutual respect, we can continue to strengthen the bond that has existed for generations.”
The Odauhene further noted that past chieftaincy matters within the broader area had been resolved through cooperation and consultation, contributing to stability in the affected communities.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Okyenhene and other traditional authorities to uphold peace, respect customary processes, and preserve the unity of the Akyem traditional areas.
