A new development has emerged in the ongoing legal dispute over the late musician Daddy Lumba’s estate. Odo Broni, the late singer’s partner, has filed a counterclaim at the Kumasi High Court seeking a declaration that Daddy Lumba divorced his wife, Akosua Serwaa, prior to his death, and requesting recognition as his legal wife.

The counterclaim was filed alongside Odo Broni’s defence in response to Akosua Serwaa’s suit. All proceedings, including the main case and the counterclaim, are being handled at the Kumasi High Court, not in Accra as previously reported.

Separately, the court clarified legal rights regarding access to the late musician’s body at the mortuary. Only the individual who transported the body to the mortuary, or those with specific legal authorization, may view it. This restriction applies even to Daddy Lumba’s sisters.

On October 28, 2025, the Kumasi High Court dismissed an injunction filed by Akosua Serwaa seeking to prevent the musician’s family head, Odo Broni, and the funeral service providers from carrying out funeral arrangements. The ruling confirmed that the family head could proceed with the funeral as planned.

The court has instructed both parties to submit all required legal documents by October 31, 2025, in preparation for a Case Management Conference scheduled for November 14, 2025, as the dispute over Daddy Lumba’s marital status and estate continues.
