Nana Baffour Agyei Awuah, is lawyer to former CEO of NEIP, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah
Nana Baffour Awuah, lawyer for former National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Chief Executive Officer Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has called on politicians and the public to exercise caution when making statements, particularly on politically sensitive platforms.
The comments follow Nkansah’s recent interrogation by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) over remarks he made during a radio discussion about alleged irregularities in the award of government-sponsored scholarships for studies abroad.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Thursday, February 12, Lawyer Awuah said, “Sometimes you should know how to handle yourself. For him, if we hear that he’s been released and to go home, we’re okay with it. But like you’re saying, we should all also be very careful when we are saying things anywhere.”
He also highlighted the importance of legal protections during security interrogations, urging individuals to have their lawyers present and to exercise their right to remain silent.
“You have every right to remain silent. Let nobody think that you can be forced to speak because whatever you say will be held against you in the court of law,” he stated.
Nkansah has been granted bail and will remain under investigation as authorities continue to probe the matter.
