Legal representatives for Honourable Ohene Kwame Frimpong have issued a formal demand to GhanaWeb, insisting the media outlet retract a story they describe as false, defamatory, and politically damaging. The publication in question alleged that the Asante Akim North MP was currently facing trial outside Ghana — a claim his lawyers say is entirely fabricated.
In a letter dated September 8 and signed by NexLaw Attorneys, the legal team stated that Frimpong is not involved in any civil or criminal proceedings, either in Ghana or abroad. They warned that the publication could erode public trust, stir disaffection among constituents, and jeopardize the MP’s parliamentary seat.
The lawyers have given GhanaWeb a strict 24-hour deadline to remove the article from all platforms and refrain from publishing further unverified claims. Failure to comply, they said, would trigger legal action.
The controversy comes amid heightened scrutiny of Frimpong’s political standing, following recent commentary by legal analyst Martin Kpebu, who suggested that any conviction abroad — particularly involving fraud or dishonesty — could result in the MP losing his seat under Article 94 of Ghana’s Constitution.
Frimpong, who defeated the NPP’s Andy Appiah-Kubi in the 2024 elections as an independent candidate, has built a public profile around philanthropy and media entrepreneurship. His team insists the allegations are politically motivated and designed to undermine his credibility.
