After a prolonged absence from the public stage due to mental health challenges, renowned Ghanaian Hiplife artist Okomfour Kwadee has reemerged, visibly composed and dedicated to a new cause aimed at protecting young people from the dangers of substance abuse.
In a candid discussion with Kwaku Manu, the ‘Atta Adwoa’ hitmaker focused on the risks associated with opioids, especially the highly addictive pill commonly referred to on the streets as “Red” or “225.” He emphasized that misuse of such substances can be fatal, urging the youth to steer clear of them.
Kwadee revealed that he personally experimented with various stimulants in the past, a period that significantly affected his health. Drawing from his experiences, he encouraged young people to prioritize productive endeavors and to avoid habits that could jeopardize their futures.
The musician also turned his attention to peers in the entertainment industry, cautioning them against using marijuana and other illicit substances. He stressed the dangers of blindly following foreign trends in music and entertainment, highlighting that imitation should not come at the cost of health or life.
“Stimulants like tramadol and Red have no benefits, despite their prevalence. Many artists are copying foreign styles without considering the consequences. Substance use has become a fashion for some, but it can destroy lives if not managed,” Kwadee said.
The return of Okomfour Kwadee is being hailed as both a personal triumph and a public service, as he now dedicates his platform to raising awareness about drug abuse and promoting healthier lifestyle choices for Ghana’s youth.
