TikTok Duo Remanded Over Abusive Remarks About Mahama and Helicopter Crash
  • Oliver Barker-Vormawor criticised the Accra Circuit Court judge over the denial of bail to Abronye DC.
  • He argued the judge misquoted a dictator (Idi Amin instead of Robert Mugabe) to justify the ruling.
  • The activist claimed the ruling undermines democratic principles.
  • Barker-Vormawor also condemned the IGP and police for Abronye’s arrest and detention.
  • He warned that improper handling of the case could fuel public disaffection with the government.
  • Abronye DC was remanded for one week after facing misdemeanour and offensive conduct charges.

Social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has publicly criticised the Accra Circuit Court judge overseeing the case of NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, following the denial of his bail.

In a post on Facebook on September 12, 2025, Barker-Vormawor expressed concern over the reasoning behind the court’s decision, describing it as troubling for Ghana’s democratic norms. He contended that the judge’s logic was flawed and questioned his suitability to remain on the bench.

The activist highlighted a notable error in the judge’s references, claiming that a quote intended to be from former Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe was actually from Uganda’s dictator Idi Amin. Barker-Vormawor criticised the use of a dictator’s words to justify restricting a citizen’s freedom in a democratic setting.

Beyond the judiciary, Barker-Vormawor also took aim at the Ghana Police Service and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, arguing that legal procedures should have been followed in court if Abronye’s statements were deemed defamatory, rather than resorting to arrests and extended detention.

Abronye was remanded for one week on September 12 after facing charges of misdemeanour and offensive conduct. Barker-Vormawor warned that the handling of the case risks public dissatisfaction with the government, noting intelligence that suggests the administration does not back the prosecution. He urged the IGP to adhere to proper legal channels, like any ordinary citizen, rather than bypassing the courts.
