Elders and members of the Onyaano/Dedeiman community, located in the Ga West Municipality in the Greater ACCRA, led by the newly Enstooled family head, Abusuapanyin Nana Kwaku Nyarko II, in a landmark event aimed at securing a self-reliant future, have officially launched their 10-Year Transformational Development Plan.
The ambitious roadmap, which spans from 2025 to 2035, outlines a comprehensive strategy to modernize infrastructure, enhance local economic opportunities, and improve the quality of life for its residents.
The unveiling ceremony brought together traditional leaders, local government officials from the Ga West Municipal Assembly, and representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
The 10-year plan, according to newly enstooled Abusuapanyin of Onyaano/Dedeiman, Nana Nyarko II, a development Planner and consultant known in Private life as Dr. Bernard Abeiku Arthur, is designed to address longstanding challenges in the community, including road connectivity, access to clean water, and youth unemployment.
Five Key Pillars of the 10-Year Plan are: Human Capital Development, Infrastructure Development, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Heritage Preservation and Conservation, and Economic Development.
Under the Human Capital Development, the community plans to construct a dedicated vocational training center to equip the youth with technical skills in agribusiness and ICT, amongst others.
Infrastructure Development: Prioritizing the paving of internal community roads and the expansion of the electricity grid to newly developed areas.
WASH Initiatives: Partnering with CSOs in the WASH sector to implement sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene projects, including the construction of modern public toilet facilities and mechanized boreholes.
Economic Empowerment: Establishing a “Community Development Fund” to provide micro-loans for local entrepreneurs and small-scale farmers.
Speaking at the launch, Nana Nyarko II emphasized that the plan is a “living document” that relies on the active participation of every community member.
“We are moving from a state of waiting for government intervention to a state of proactive partnership,” he stressed.
According to Nana Nyarko II, his vision is to empower the people, build a strong foundation for progress, ensure a healthy community, protect the town’s rich culture, and foster prosperity for all.
The community members, both indigenes and foreigners, have thrown their support behind the new leader, pledging to work together to achieve unity and development.
As Ghana aligns its development plans with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063, Nana Kwaku Nyarko II’s initiative is a testament to the country’s commitment to sustainable growth and development.
By 2036, Onyaano/Dedeiman is expected to become a model community, showcasing sustainable development practices, preserving its cultural heritage, and thriving economically.
The success of this initiative could serve as a blueprint for other communities in Ghana and beyond.
