Oppong Nkrumah (L) has responded to calls for him to replace Afenyo-Markin (R)
The Minority Spokesperson on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has dismissed claims of a possible change in parliamentary leadership within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus.
Reacting to speculation linking him to a potential reshuffle in the caucus’ leadership, he stated that no such discussions are underway, describing the claims as “totally unnecessary.”
‘Ghana is crying for NPP’s bold, competent leadership’ – Afenyo-Markin
“I have heard this, but I think it’s totally unnecessary. As a caucus, we are not having any conversations about a change of leadership, and I think it is totally unnecessary,” he said while shutting down the claims on TV3 on February 22, 2026.
According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the caucus remains committed and focused on executing its mandate of providing parliamentary oversight over the government.
“We are focused, united, and working together to hold the government to account on its promises,” he added.
His remarks come amid public speculation about the leadership of the Minority Caucus, currently led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Meanwhile, some stalwarts of the New Patriotic Party, including legal practitioner Gabby Otchere-Darko, have backed the leadership of Alexander Afenyo-Markin, stating that the current state of the Minority in Parliament is strong and that its performance has been commendable.

“I haven’t heard calls for the removal of Afenyo-Markin, but I think the Minority has done well. They have held the party together for the past twelve months.
“I also saw footage of him with the presidential candidate, and I am confident the party, in its wisdom, will remain stable,” he said.
