Osofo Kyiri Abosom, founder and leader of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has made a bold declaration ahead of the upcoming elections, vowing to evict President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from his Nima residence if he is elected as president.
The controversial presidential candidate claimed that the property in question is a government-owned building originally intended for use as a police station.
Kyiri Abosom pointed out that the property was allegedly appropriated by Edward Akufo-Addo, the father of the current president, when he served as Ghana’s head of state.
According to him, Edward Akufo-Addo turned the government building into his personal residence, and the president continues to live there.
Kyiri Abosom expressed disbelief that Nana Addo, after serving multiple terms in public office, had not built a private home of his own.
He questioned why the president, given his access to significant resources during his time in power, would continue to occupy a state property.
“If he’s made so much money during his time in office, why hasn’t he built his own house?” the preacher-turned-politician remarked.
In addition to his comments on the Nima residence, Kyiri Abosom outlined his plans to abolish the ex gratia payments given to former lawmakers and government officials if elected president.
He argued that these payments are unfairly distributed, benefiting politicians who, according to him, often mismanage public funds, while dedicated public servants like teachers and nurses are left without such rewards.
He believes that the current system privileges politicians over ordinary civil servants who work tirelessly for the betterment of the country.
Kyiri Abosom is positioning himself as a candidate determined to disrupt the status quo and bring what he sees as greater fairness to the political system in Ghana.
