Oti Region: 19-year-old killed in police-youth clash

According to reports, on Sunday, May 5, after altercations between the police and angry youth in Dambai, the municipal headquarters of Krachi East, Oti Region, a 19-year-old resident of Dambai Lakeside, was shot and killed.

A community member named Mr. Francis Gesaloge Boyesah Okoro claimed that the police, who were on night patrol, went to the area to apprehend some young people from the “ghetto,” “who were smoking hard drugs at the time.”

He claimed that because the young person refused to submit to arrest, warning shots were fired, causing commotion. As a result, Sey was struck by a stray bullet and died at the hospital shortly after.

He claimed that after making a formal report at the police station, the body was brought to Worawora Hospital to be preserved.

Residents and pedestrians alike fled for cover as a result of that inciting panic in the town.

Certain young people who were angry smashed two police motorbikes that were there.

To help with their investigations, the police have detained two people.
