Sarkodie’s iconic Rapperholic concert is set to make a major return to Kumasi — and this time, it will be graced by the Asantehene himself.
The celebrated rapper, born Michael Owusu Addo, visited the Manhyia Palace on July 18, 2025, to inform Otumfuo Osei Tutu II of his plans to host the much-anticipated show in the Ashanti Region. Scheduled for September 27 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the concert marks a significant homecoming for the event, which first debuted in Kumasi several years ago.
Sarkodie, speaking before the King, recalled that the Rapperholic brand was born 12 years ago following the success of a song by the same title. Over time, it evolved into an annual musical experience that has thrilled fans across Ghana. Now, he seeks to relaunch it in Kumasi and came to request the King’s blessings for the occasion.
The Asantehene warmly received the announcement and indicated his intention to be present at the upcoming show, adding a new level of excitement and honour to the event.
Beyond his pledge to attend, Otumfuo shared words of counsel with the artiste. He urged Sarkodie to remain grounded despite his fame and to avoid unnecessary conflict in the music industry. He also assured him of ongoing spiritual support and emphasized that humility and good character would sustain his success.
Turning to Sarkodie’s team, Otumfuo encouraged professionalism and positive conduct. He warned them against behaviour that could damage the artiste’s image and advised that their focus should always be on uplifting his brand. Any success the artiste enjoys, he said, would benefit the entire team in due time.
With the King’s endorsement and the upcoming Kumasi edition of Rapperholic now official, the stage is set for what promises to be a historic night of music, unity, and cultural pride in the Ashanti capital.
