The Asanteman Council is set to welcome at least four new paramountcies before the end of the year, as Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II prepares to elevate several Divisional Councils in the Bono and Ahafo Regions.
During the Asanteman Council meeting at Manhyia Palace on March 17, 2025, Otumfuo confirmed that Nkyeraa, Fiapre, Atronie, and Menye in the Bono Region are among the traditional areas to be honored with paramount status.
He reaffirmed his sole authority over the elevations, stating, “Nkyeraa is mine, Menye is mine. No one other than myself can elevate them. They are all mine…and other towns I will elevate in Bono and Ahafo this year. I will do it. No one else but I have the sole authority to elevate them.”
Before the elevations take effect, a formal list of the affected Councils will be presented to the Asanteman Council. Once confirmed, the respective chiefs will be invited to swear their oaths of allegiance to Otumfuo.
“When the time is due, I will inform Nananom so we invite them,” the Asantehene assured.
The move reflects Otumfuo’s ongoing commitment to strengthening traditional leadership structures within Asanteman and reinforcing the influence of Asante heritage in the Bono and Ahafo regions.
