The long-delayed Greater Kumasi Industrial Park project is finally set to move forward after Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stepped in to resolve land disputes threatening its progress.
The $30 million World Bank-funded initiative, designed to accelerate industrialization in the Ashanti Region, had been at risk due to ownership disagreements and compensation concerns.
In a decisive intervention, Otumfuo convened a high-level meeting with stakeholders, ordering a thorough audit of the affected lands to ensure rightful owners receive fair compensation.
His leadership is expected to clear the obstacles that have stalled the project, allowing construction to begin as planned.
Trade and Agribusiness Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, who has been spearheading government efforts on the initiative, highlighted the urgency of starting work within two months to prevent Ghana from losing the funding.
She praised Otumfuo’s swift action, noting that his involvement will fast-track negotiations and keep the project on track.
Once completed, the Greater Kumasi Industrial Park is expected to be a key hub for manufacturing and trade, attracting major local and international investors.
With land disputes now being addressed, stakeholders remain optimistic that the project will move forward smoothly, ushering in economic growth and employment opportunities for the region.
