Otumfuo Selects Juabenhene to Join National House of Chiefs, Replaces Mamponghene

Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Paramount Chief of Juaben, has been officially appointed to represent the Ashanti Region at the National House of Chiefs, marking a return to a role he first held five decades ago.

His selection was announced during the inaugural meeting of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs for 2025, which was led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on July 17. The King stated that Nana Otuo Siriboe II would be filling the spot previously occupied by Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene.

Otumfuo emphasized that the Juabenhene’s vast experience—stretching back to his initial election to the National House in 1975—was central to his decision. The monarch praised the chief’s decades of public service and said his insight would be valuable in representing Ashanteman’s interests at the national level.

Nana Otuo Siriboe II now joins four others as the Ashanti Region’s delegation to the National House of Chiefs. They include Nana Effah-Appenteng (Bompatahene), Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua (Kumawuhene), Baffour Owusu Bediako II (Domeabrahene), and Nana Okyere Kusi Aduako II (Essumegyahene).

Otumfuo urged the newly constituted team to work in harmony and remain committed to advocating for the needs and well-being of Ghanaians across the country.

Beyond his royal duties, Nana Juabenhene is a trained electrical engineer and a successful oil palm farmer operating on a large scale. Over the past 50 years, he has led numerous development projects in Juaben, improving access to education, healthcare, sanitation, and public infrastructure.

In 2004, he joined Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on a significant visit to the World Bank Headquarters in Washington D.C., where they engaged with then-President Jim Wolfensohn on the “Promoting Partnership with Traditional Authorities Programme” (PPTAP), aimed at deepening collaboration between global institutions and traditional leaders.

Nana Otuo Siriboe II’s impact also spans beyond traditional governance. He has served the Republic of Ghana in various top-level capacities, including as Chairman of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Council and as a longstanding member—and later Chairman—of the Council of State from 2017 to 2025.

In recognition of his wide-ranging service, the Government of Ghana awarded him the prestigious Order of the Star of Ghana in 2007, the highest civilian honour, acknowledging his leadership in chieftaincy, industry, and national development.

His return to the National House of Chiefs reaffirms not only his standing as a respected elder in Asanteman but also his ongoing influence in shaping Ghana’s traditional and national leadership frameworks.
