Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah, has revealed that none of the 107 contracts awarded under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme was subjected to competitive bidding.
He disclosed Newsfile on JoyNews on Saturday, 28 March.
According to Mr Braimah, the findings are based on official records obtained from the Ministry of Roads and Highways Big Push Master Register.
“Out of 107 contracts, none was subject to competitive bidding. This is what the Ministry itself provided to us,” he said, emphasising that the data reflects government documentation rather than independent assumptions.
He further disclosed that The Fourth Estate relied on the Right to Information Act to access the records but was initially denied, forcing an appeal.
Mr Braimah added that the team also engaged other agencies, including the Ghana Highways Authority, to verify contract details and ensure the accuracy of their report.
He criticised the Ministry’s response, describing it as inadequate.
“The Roads Minister has not addressed the core issue: that all contracts were awarded without competition, raising serious questions about transparency and accountability,” he said.
