A joint security operation by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region has led to the arrest of over 300 suspects believed to be connected to the recent assault on officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
The coordinated raid, conducted in Anwona, Nhyieaso, and Dadwen—communities near Obuasi—was part of an intelligence-driven exercise to track down individuals behind the attack on members of NAIMOS, police officers, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff, and journalists during an official assignment.
Those apprehended have been transported to the Patasi Police Depot for further screening and investigation.
According to COP Dr. Sayibu Gariba, Director-General in charge of Technical at the Ghana Police Service, the operation—which commenced on November 12, 2025—forms part of efforts to clamp down on illegal miners and deter those who attempt to obstruct the work of state security.
He emphasized that anyone found culpable would face prosecution, warning that the law would deal firmly with those undermining national anti-galamsey efforts.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain calm and go about their daily routines, as the security exercise is designed to strengthen public safety and maintain order rather than cause alarm.
