Over GHS 2.3 Million Raised for Children of Helicopter Crash Victims—Here’s Who Donated

In the wake of the devastating helicopter crash that occurred on August 6 in Adansi Akrofuom, a national effort has emerged to support the children left behind. The Children’s Support Fund, initiated by President John Dramani Mahama, was created to provide financial security and care for the young dependents of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

So far, the fund has received an impressive GHS 2,315,000 in donations. The initial boost came from Stanbic Bank Ghana, which contributed GHS 500,000 to kickstart the initiative. Since then, a wave of support has followed from various companies including Procus GH Limited, GB Foods Ghana, Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd, Sage Distribution Ltd, Quantum Oil Terminals, Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd, Newgas Cylinder Ltd, and Quantum Terminals PLC.

The fund’s coordinator, Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, who also serves as Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, is overseeing the process to ensure transparency. To that end, donor lists are being published weekly, allowing the public to track contributions and see how the fund is growing.

The crash, which claimed the lives of high-ranking officials and military personnel, left several children without parents. The fund aims to secure their future by covering essential needs such as education, healthcare, and general welfare.
