The internal rifts within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) appear to be deepening as Ernest Owusu Bempah, a prominent party figure, launched a scathing attack on long-serving Suame MP, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu. During an interview on Oyerepa TV on Monday, July 28, 2025, Bempah didn’t hold back in his criticism, branding the veteran legislator as the least effective MP the Ashanti Region has seen under the NPP’s banner.
His comments came in the wake of recent remarks by Kyei Mensah Bonsu targeting Kennedy Agyapong. Bempah, a known ally of the Assin Central politician, questioned the legacy of the former Majority Leader, pointing to what he saw as a lack of meaningful development in Suame despite Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s extended tenure in parliament.
Bempah argued that the Suame MP’s repeated electoral victories were merely the result of regional loyalty rather than any concrete achievements, suggesting that being from the NPP’s stronghold was the primary reason for his political survival.
He further accused Kyei Mensah Bonsu of actively undermining Kennedy Agyapong’s bid to lead the party, describing his actions as deliberate attempts to derail the presidential ambitions of one of the party’s most influential and resourceful members.
This outburst is part of a pattern, as Owusu Bempah has become increasingly outspoken following the NPP’s loss in the 2024 elections. His public criticisms of senior figures in the party have sparked heated debate, especially as the party navigates a period of internal reflection and strategic realignment.
