A senior journalist with the Daily Graphic, Alberto Mario Noretti, has been adjudged the best writer on children’s health and advocacy.
Mr Noretti, who is currently the Volta Regional correspondent, focused on such stories on rural communities within the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole.
The honour was conferred on him at this year’s annual general and scientific meeting of the Paediatric Society of Ghana (PSG) held at Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, last Friday (February 6).
The meeting, on the theme: “Leaving No Child Behind: Advancing Equitable Healthcare for Children and Adolescents with Non-Communicable Diseases” (NCDs), identified others, including some development partners who distinguished themselves in their services on the welfare of children.
It brought together executive members of the Paediatric Society of Ghana, paediatricians, development partners, representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the International Paediatric Association, among others.
Citation
The citation in part said, “In recognition of your dedication and commitment to child health advocacy in Ghana, the Paediatric Society of Ghana proudly presents this citation of honour to you.
“Your career as a journalist has impacted public awareness and policy discourse on children’s health.
With our five years of collaboration with the Paediatric Society of Ghana, you have utilised available print media, including Daily Graphic, The Mirror and Junior Graphic, to champion the health concerns of Ghanaian children.
“Your combination of journalistic excellence and clinical insight as a British-trained nurse has enabled you to craft compassionate narratives that represent the health challenges facing women and children.
“Your bold reporting spans critical topics, including newborn babies with jaundice, childhood cancers, as well as road safety and disasters such as the floods in Mepe.
“You have championed campaigns against child marriages and advocacy across Ghana, and the Volta Region in particular, while amplifying healthcare workers’ voices.
“The Paediatric Society of Ghana is grateful for your hard work and impact on child health in Ghana.”
