I wish to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to the fact that the Pantang Junction to Abokobi road is deteriorating at a very alarming rate and needs urgent maintenance.
I can estimate that, currently, every 10 to 20 yards distance is ‘potholed’, with its attendant dangers.
What beats every user is that it is a relatively newly reconstructed road, not more than eight years old, done under the last administration.
In fact, the quality of the work came into question in the very first few months of construction when many tarred parts started giving off their coverings, but we thought they would be worked on immediately.
Dear editor, please have you seen a road under construction and after having been fully tarred, gets a part demolished for a bridge to be constructed?
Then, after the construction of the bridge, that part was left unsealed, to develop numerous potholes to endanger lives and vehicles.
The question some of us have never stopped asking is: “What considerations went into designing that part of the road?
In fact, the situation of the road makes observers ask numerous questions, among which are: Who were the persons behind the whole reconstruction – client, project consultants, architects, engineers, site engineers and contractors?
Observers further ask how much the original estimates for that road’s reconstruction were and how much was ultimately spent.
Regardless of the situation or people’s assumptions, the fact remains that if the deterioration is not arrested before the next heavy rains this year, the entire road will likely need to be completely reconstructed afterwards.
Pantang to Abokobi road needs immediate and very serious maintenance now!!!
