The Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, Geoffrey Kini, has raised alarms over the declining number of first-year students enrolling in the township’s three senior high schools: Nkwanta SHS, Nkwanta Community SHS, and Kyabobo Girls SHS.

Kini attributed the low turnout to past conflicts in the area, noting that parents are naturally reluctant to send their children to a town that was previously affected by violence. He emphasized the importance of community-wide cooperation—including chiefs, religious leaders, youth groups, and opinion leaders—to foster a safe environment conducive to learning.

The MP stressed that the previous unrest was a mistake and highlighted that peace has now been restored. He encouraged residents and parents to regain confidence in Nkwanta, expressing optimism that the town can recover and restore trust in its educational institutions.

Kini’s remarks come in the wake of noticeably low enrollment figures for the 2025/26 academic year, which have raised concerns about the long-term impact of the conflict on local education.
