A 42-year-old pastor has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 25-year-old woman under the false pretense of providing spiritual healing.
The crime, which occurred in 2022 at Masodi village, has led to a significant conviction by the Mahwelereng Regional Court.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the pastor exploited the woman’s vulnerability by convincing her that she had a spiritual problem that required deliverance.
He manipulated the victim after she brought her sick mother to him for prayer, claiming that she needed a “spiritual intervention.”
In a disturbing turn of events, the pastor instructed the woman to undress for a supposed “spiritual steaming” session, during which he proceeded to rape her.
The victim bravely reported the incident to the police, leading to an investigation by the Mokopane Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit under Sergeant Lesetja Langa.
After a trial, the pastor was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 15 years in prison, where he will serve time for the violation of the woman’s trust and well-being.
This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the abuse of power by those in positions of authority and the vulnerability of individuals seeking help.
