A pedestrian was knocked down by a vehicle at the Pokuase Interchange near the Eco block area on Sunday, March 1, sparking renewed concerns over safety conditions on the stretch.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred at night under poor visibility, attributing the crash to non-functional streetlights along sections of the interchange.
According to residents, the absence of lighting has made it increasingly dangerous for pedestrians attempting to cross the busy highway.
Some locals expressed frustration, noting that motorists often struggle to spot individuals crossing the road in the darkness.
“A car just hit an auto-sprayer right now. It’s very sad. None of the streetlights is working. Imagine a highway without any streetlights,” one resident lamented.
Community members say the faulty lighting has persisted for some time, heightening the risk of accidents, particularly during the evening hours when traffic volumes remain high.
They fear that without urgent intervention, similar incidents could recur.
Residents have, therefore, appealed to the appropriate authorities to repair and restore the streetlights as soon as possible, stressing that improved illumination is critical to safeguarding both pedestrians and drivers using the interchange.
