A tragic incident in the Anloga District of the Volta Region has left residents and the Anloga Senior High Secondary School (Anseco) community in shock after a teacher reportedly died from a suspected lightning strike during a heavy downpour.
The incident happened on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, around 5:45 p.m., amid a thunderstorm.
James Fiati, the Assembly Member for Atsugbor Electoral Area, described the distressing scene, revealing that he received reports from residents about a man lying motionless in the middle of the road while the rain continued to fall.
The man, later identified as Mr. William Amoako, a Physics teacher at Anseco, was believed to be heading home when tragedy struck.
Authorities, including the police and school officials, have visited the scene. A preliminary examination revealed bruises on the deceased’s head and torn clothing, further raising suspicions of a lightning strike.
The body has since been transported to the Keta Municipal Hospital morgue for an autopsy as police investigations continue. Meanwhile, residents have been urged to take precautions during thunderstorms to avoid similar incidents.
The unexpected loss has devastated students, teachers, and the broader community, with many paying tribute to the young teacher, who was reportedly in his early 30s and hailed from Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region.
