PIAC Chair Richard Ellimah and Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson
The Chair of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Richard Ellimah, has held discussions with the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, on the financial challenges confronting the Committee and the need for sustainable funding to support its mandate.
The meeting, held on Monday, January 26, 2026, focused on PIAC’s funding constraints, particularly the impact of delays and inadequacies in budgetary allocations on the Committee’s ability to effectively monitor and evaluate the management and use of Ghana’s petroleum revenues.
Ellimah underscored PIAC’s statutory role under the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA) and emphasised that adequate and timely funding remains critical to ensuring transparency, accountability, and public confidence in the management and utilisation of petroleum revenues.
The finance minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, acknowledged PIAC’s importance as a key accountability institution and assured the Committee of the government’s commitment to addressing its funding concerns to support effective oversight.
